A fail printout is a reason — MIL on, monitors not ready, or a code family. Read it before you pay $18.50 a second time.
Local tip · Sugar Land / Houston · JINS AUTO · updated Aug 19, 2026
The live version of this tip was a short fail stub. The useful version starts after the printout: a commanded-on check-engine light, incomplete monitors, or a catalyst / EVAP code is why the sticker bounced — not “the shop was picky.” At JINS AUTO, 16220 West Bellfort St, Sugar Land / Four Corners, TX 77498, we read the fail, scan, and test before anyone pays $18.50 a second time. Call (346) 558-9674 or book online. Mon–Sat 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM. Sunday closed.
Bring the paper if you already failed elsewhere. The three lines we care about first:
This tip is the after-fail page. How the test is supposed to work — who needs it, drive-in hours, what DPS looks at — is what to know about Texas inspection. The station page is Texas vehicle / emission inspection.
Someone hoped we would “just inspect it” with the light on. Someone jumped the car last week in a First Colony lot; it starts; monitors are blank. Someone cleared the codes at a parts store on the way down West Bellfort. August heat also makes EVAP leaks louder — a seam that was quiet in January fails a monitor after a 95°F sit. None of those is a reason to pay $18.50 twice in one afternoon.
Fort Bend and Harris County drivers still need the emissions side on eligible gasoline cars. Rules follow Texas DPS, not our preference. Some vehicles (for example many pure EVs) may be treated differently under current state guidance. If you are unsure, bring the car and the registration county. We will not invent a pass rate or a “we always pass you” claim. The computer is ready or it is not.
Diagnosis first — a code is a clue, not a parts list. Then the repair that matches the test. Then enough mixed driving for monitors to complete. Then the sticker. Our drive-in inspection is $18.50 during shop hours. No appointment required when we can take you. Repeating the official test without a fix wastes that $18.50 and an afternoon. We do not quote other prices here.
If the fail was safety-side — bald tire, metal-on-metal brakes, a lamp out — that is a different conversation: tires, brakes, when to replace pads. A used-car scan before you wire a deposit is the PPI page, not the $18.50 sticker. Houston-side drivers can use check-engine in Houston — still this shop.
We will not “clear it and try again” as a business model. We will not sell a converter because the printout named P0420 until we have looked at misfire, exhaust leaks, and sensors. Streamline Autoworx is a different shop on the same street. We are JINS AUTO at 16220 West Bellfort St. Look for the JINS AUTO sign — a photo of the station license is on the homepage; we are not inventing a certificate number on this page.

Incomplete readiness monitors. A jump, a disconnect, or a parts-store clear wipes the self-tests. Short Sugar Land trips may never finish them. Drive cycle first, then the $18.50 retest.
No. Clearing without a fix is how you fail twice. We diagnose, repair, then inspect. Inspection is $18.50 drive-in Mon–Sat 8:30–6:00 when we can take you. We do not invent a pass.
